With a user-friendly interface and ergonomic design, Spiroedge is easy to use. With the press of a button, you can easily begin recording, with a buzzer to coach your beginning and ending times.

Unlike traditional spirometery testing, Spiroedge's real-time recording system allows the user to obtain their results with only an inhale and an exhale.

Each Spiroedge device has its own personal Bluetooth code to ensure safe connection. All of the results can be sent to a physician via HIPAA-compliant secured Cloud storage.

Spiroedge originally began as a prototype for a local engineering fair project. Founder Hannah Edge, an asthmatic, noted the inefficiency of hospital spirometers; and was determined to build a low-cost, accurate, portable spirometry device that would allow for an easier interface between patient and physician. This project has been presented from county, state, and even the Intel ISEF science and engineering fairs. Currently, Spiroedge has advanced from its prototype design to incorporate far more features, and an even more ergonomic design, produced through 3d rendering and printing.

Spiroedge's goal is to provide real-time data to users, so that they can track their lung inflammation levels, spirometric values, as well as oximetry data. The mobile interface allows for an on-the-go, easy to use platform for maintaining healthy lung function for patients and athletes alike.

Spiroedge utilizes a number of technologies to provide accurate, quick results. Air pressure sensors precisely measure lung capacity, while allowing for real-time recording via Android application. An oximeter is also incorporated into the spirometer's function - a unique integration of two medical tools, right at your fingertips. FeNO measurements are also provided in less than 15 seconds.

Hannah Edge

is the Founder of SpiroEdge. She is a 16 year old freshman at Arizona State University pursuing a degree in Computer Science. At 13 years old, Hannah won the Grand Prize at the Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair and went on to compete at the prestigious Intel International

Science and Engineering Fair as well as participating in Google Science Fair with two robotics projects.  Hannah won the Silicon Boule Award at the California State Science Fair and First Place in Robotics Division at Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair.

Rami Abousleiman, PhD

is the Co-Founder and CTO of SpiroEdge. Dr. Abousleiman received his masters and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan in 2009 and 2014 respectively. Dr. Abousleiman has more than 4 patents and 20 scientific publications. Prior to moving to the Bay Area Dr. Abousleiman worked at FCA in Auburn Hills, Michigan where he led the development of V2G, G2V, electric driving range estimation, and charge time estimation for electric and plug-in electric production and R&D vehicles. He is currently working at Gotion Inc. in Fremont, California where he is leading the software development for the Battery Management System module for electric vehicles. When Rami isn’t working, you can find him hiking, biking, or traveling.

John M. Carney, MD, MPH

is a medical advisor at SpiroEdge. Dr. Carney earned his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2006, and completed a residency in the specialty of Anesthesiology at West Virginia University in 2010.  He is board certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology.  Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, he earned a Master's degree in Public Health from Yale University in 2001 and worked in behavioral and clinical research at UCSF and Merck Co.  He is currently practicing anesthesiology in Erie, Pennsylvania.  His extracurricular interests include music, travel, hiking and kayaking.

Reza Malmirchegini, PhD

is a scientific advisor at SpiroEdge.

Dr. Malmirchegini earned his PhD in Biochemistry from UCLA in 2013, where he studied the molecular mechanism of heme scavenging by bacterial pathogens

S. aureus and L. monocytogenes. In 2016, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF, where he utilized design and engineering principles to study proteins involved in human disease.

Dr. Malmirchegini is currently working at Revance Therapeutics as part of the pharmaceutical development team, where he researches ways to improve the duration of botulinum toxin for both aesthetic and clinical applications. In his free time,

Dr. Malmirchegini enjoys reading, playing basketball and hiking.

David Cai

is the design and manufacturing consultant at SpiroEdge. David has more than 20 years of working experience in Embedded System Design and Development, over a wide variety of industries including consumer electronics, industrial, medical, and pharmaceutical. David has vast experience in the mechanical side of design and manufacturing as well as fabrication methods, tradeoffs and design for manufacturability.

Enrique Estrada

is the telemedicine advisor at SpiroEdge. Enrique is the Director of Strategic Solutions Sales at Care Innovations, and has over 20 years of broad consulting, product lifecycle and strategy experience in both Telecommunications and Healthcare. He has worked in many transformational roles, including startups and fortune 500 companies where he was principal innovator and product owner of new and disruptive technologies. Over his career, he’s productized network optimization tools, telemedicine solutions, cloud-based exchanges, and as of recent a new virtual scribe platform for EMRs. Enrique is passionate about the intersection of technology, business process and healthcare, and focuses on discovering where better value can be explored to focus on the triple aim of healthcare.
